Day Pass, Monthly Card or Smart Membership: Which Is Right for You?
Choosing a gym membership is easier when you compare it with the way you actually train—not only with the headline price. A day pass, a flexible monthly card and an annual Smart membership can all be the right choice, but for different schedules and goals.
Below, we compare Athletic’s main options by price, commitment, club access and realistic training frequency. This will help you choose a plan you can use consistently—and avoid paying for flexibility you do not need.
The short answer
- Choose a day pass if you want to try a specific club or you train only occasionally.
- Choose the monthly card if you want access to all Athletic clubs in Bulgaria without an annual commitment.
- Choose Smart Sofia if you train regularly in Sofia and are comfortable with a 12-month plan.
- Choose Smart Bulgaria if you train regularly and want access to all Athletic clubs nationwide.
If you have not trained at Athletic before, start with a free workout. Experiencing the club, equipment and atmosphere is the best way to make a confident decision.
Athletic membership options at a glance
Day pass — €9.99
The day pass is valid for one day at one selected Athletic club. It is a practical option when you want to test a location, train while travelling or visit the gym without committing to a membership.
It offers maximum freedom, but the cost per workout becomes high if you use it frequently. Four visits already cost €39.96, while six visits cost €59.94.
Monthly card — €49.99
The monthly card is valid for one month and gives you access to all Athletic clubs in Bulgaria. It is designed for people who want flexibility and do not want to commit for a full year.
The standard plan includes gym access and one group workout per day. At eight workouts per month, the effective cost is about €6.25 per visit. At twelve workouts, it falls to about €4.17.
Smart Sofia — €24.99 per month
Smart Sofia is an annual membership paid monthly. It provides access to all Athletic clubs in Sofia and is best suited to people who train regularly in the capital.
At eight workouts per month, the effective cost is about €3.12 per visit; at twelve workouts, it is about €2.08. The lower monthly price comes with a longer commitment, so consistency matters.
Smart Bulgaria — €29.99 per month
Smart Bulgaria is also an annual membership paid monthly, but it includes all Athletic clubs across the country. It suits members who travel, divide their time between cities or simply want the widest possible choice of locations.
At eight workouts per month, the effective cost is about €3.75 per visit; at twelve workouts, it is about €2.50.
Special plans and conditions may apply to Mall Pernik and Climbing Fit. Check the current details on the Athletic prices page before purchasing.
Which option is best for your training frequency?
One or two workouts per month
A day pass can make sense if your visits are genuinely rare or you only want to test a club. However, if you expect your routine to grow, compare the total monthly cost before paying for several individual visits.
Three to seven workouts per month
The monthly card is often the most balanced choice when your schedule is still changing. You receive broad club access without being tied to a year-long plan. It can also be a useful “test month” before choosing Smart.
Eight or more workouts per month
For regular training, a Smart membership normally provides the strongest value per visit. If you train only in Sofia, Smart Sofia is the more economical option. If you need nationwide access, Smart Bulgaria offers greater flexibility.
Monthly flexibility or annual value?
The key difference is not simply €49.99 versus €24.99 or €29.99. It is the trade-off between flexibility and commitment.
A monthly card is better when you are unsure about your schedule, expect a move or long trip, or want to evaluate your routine first. Smart is better when training is already part of your week and you expect to continue throughout the year.
Before choosing an annual plan, ask yourself a practical question: can I realistically train at least twice a week? If the answer is yes, the lower effective cost of Smart can be significant. If the answer is uncertain, one flexible month may be the smarter starting point.
Sofia-only access or all clubs in Bulgaria?
Your usual locations should determine this choice. Smart Sofia is sufficient if you live, work and train mainly in the capital. Smart Bulgaria is more suitable if you regularly visit another city, travel for work or want complete nationwide freedom.
Browse the current Athletic clubs and identify the locations you would genuinely use. A larger network is valuable only when it matches your routine.
Do group workouts matter to you?
Standard Athletic plans include gym access plus one group workout per day. That can add meaningful value if classes help you stay motivated, follow a structured session or combine strength training with activities such as yoga, functional training or indoor cycling.
Check the current group workout schedule for the clubs and times that suit you. A class you can attend consistently is more useful than a large timetable that does not fit your day.
A simple decision checklist
- Estimate how many times you will realistically train each month.
- Decide whether you need one club, all Sofia clubs or nationwide access.
- Consider whether a 12-month commitment fits your plans.
- Include group workouts in the value comparison if you intend to attend them.
- Visit the club before committing if you have not trained there yet.
Try Athletic before you choose
The best membership is the one that makes regular training easy. Location, opening hours, equipment, cleanliness and atmosphere often matter more than a small price difference.
If you are still deciding, claim a free Athletic workout, visit the most convenient club and test your planned training time. Then choose the option that matches your real routine: a day pass for occasional access, a monthly card for flexibility, Smart Sofia for regular training in the capital, or Smart Bulgaria for nationwide access.
