  5. Stretching in Sofia: What to Expect from a Group Class and Where to Try It

Looking for a stretching class in Sofia, but unsure whether you need to be flexible already? A group class can give you dedicated time for stretching and controlled movement with guidance from an instructor. Before choosing a session, check what it involves, whether it suits your experience and when it actually takes place.

This guide explains what you can generally expect, how to prepare and where to find current information at Athletic.

What is a group stretching class?

Stretching involves exercises that lengthen muscles and work on flexibility. A class called “Stretching and Mobility” may also include active movements focused on range of motion, stability and control. This is how Athletic describes the format.

Flexibility and mobility are related, but they are not identical. In practical terms, it matters not only how far you can reach in a position, but also how you control movement within that range. Avoid choosing a class solely because of photos of advanced poses or promises of achieving the splits quickly.

What can you expect at your first session?

The exact structure depends on the instructor and group. The following steps are a general guide, rather than a fixed programme for every Athletic class.

  1. A brief introduction. Tell the instructor that this is your first visit. Mention any limitations or movements that cause discomfort.
  2. A gradual warm-up. The session may begin with gentle movements to prepare you for the exercises that follow.
  3. The main section. This may involve controlled movements and holds in different positions. Choose a range and variation suited to your current ability.
  4. A calmer finish. Afterwards, ask any questions about technique and an appropriate level of effort for your next visit.

You do not need to reach as far as the person beside you. Move smoothly and breathe normally. Stretching should not become a competition to tolerate pain.

Is stretching suitable for beginners?

You can enquire about a class without previous experience, but ask about its level and possible adaptations first. The name “stretching” does not mean every session is suitable for every person.

Regular, appropriate stretching can improve flexibility and range of motion. Results depend on individual characteristics, consistency and the programme. A single class cannot be promised to eliminate pain, correct posture or prevent every injury.

Stop a movement if you experience sharp pain or joint pain. If you have an injury, recent surgery or a health condition affecting exercise, discuss participation with your healthcare professional. A group class does not replace individual rehabilitation.

Where can you enquire about stretching in Sofia?

Athletic Cherni Vrah

Athletic Cherni Vrah is at 47 Cherni Vrah Boulevard, Sofia. “Stretching and Mobility” appears among the activities on the club page and in the general workout catalogue.

Confirm a specific session before visiting. When checked on 26 October 2026, the schedule for 26–30 October did not contain a class under that name. Listing an activity in the club description does not mean it runs every week.

Open the schedule section on the club page or contact reception on +359 885 130 060. Ask when the next session is, what level it is, whether places are available and whether advance booking is needed. Also confirm the duration rather than assuming it is the same for every class.

How should you prepare?

  • Wear comfortable sportswear. It should allow you to move freely.
  • Check footwear and equipment requirements. Ask whether a mat is used and whether one is provided.
  • Bring water and a towel. Allow time to change and speak to the instructor.
  • Do not copy someone else’s range. Ask for an easier variation if a position is difficult.
  • Do not aim for pain. Reduce the range if you feel discomfort and ask for guidance.

How is a class different from stretching after a workout?

A brief stretch after strength or cardio exercise is part of the workout you have just completed. A separate group class provides more time for exercises with a specific focus and an instructor-led programme. Both approaches may fit into your routine, but they are not interchangeable in every situation.

If you want to know how to finish your usual workout, see our article about stretching after exercise, available in Bulgarian. For your first group class, begin by checking the actual session and its level.

How do you pay for a visit?

Check the current memberships and prices and the conditions for the specific class. Included group visits and club access depend on your chosen plan. Confirm booking requirements separately.

Explore Athletic with a free first visit

If you are still choosing a gym, you can request a Free Pass to explore the club and experience its atmosphere. The offer is listed as valid for group workouts too. For stretching, first confirm the available session and the conditions for using your pass with the team.

Request a free visit

Complete the form and follow the instructions you receive. A Free Pass request does not automatically reserve a place in a group class.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be flexible already?

You do not need to perform advanced positions to enquire about a first class. Discuss the level and adaptations with the instructor and work within a range that suits you.

Does stretching treat back pain?

No single exercise or group format treats every cause of pain. Seek medical assessment for persistent or severe symptoms rather than choosing a class as treatment.

Is there a stretching session every week?

Do not assume so from the website’s list of activities alone. Check the specific date in the schedule and confirm it with the club.

Can I use Free Pass?

Free Pass is for a first free workout and is listed as valid for group activities too. Confirm availability, conditions and booking for your chosen stretching session in advance.
